What to Expect in Your First Week of Renovation

You’ve signed the quote, approved the design, and scheduled your attic renovation. The big moment has arrived. But what actually happens in the first week when the builders arrive? Will your house feel like a construction zone—or a calm, well-managed transition?

Let’s pull back the curtain and walk you through exactly what to expect in your first week of attic renovation, so you can plan ahead, stay relaxed, and feel fully in control.

Day 1: Site Setup & Protection

Before a hammer swings or a beam is lifted, the crew’s first job is setting the stage:

  • Laying protective covers over floors and stairs
  • Sealing off areas with dust barriers (especially during cutting)
  • Ensuring safe, clean access in and out of your home

You’ll also meet your site lead—your go-to person for questions and updates.

Bonus: At The Irish Attic Company, we show up with shoe covers, your daily schedule, and a smile.

Day 2–3: Stripping Back & Structural Prep

Time to peel back the layers. During these early days:

  • Old insulation is removed (if present)
  • Joists and structural beams are inspected
  • Any demolition (non-load-bearing walls or floor panels) is completed

Expect some noise—but with planning, we keep disruptions minimal.

Tip: Plan to work from a quieter room or pop out for a coffee during the noisiest hours.

Day 4–5: Framing the Future

Once the space is cleared and prepped, framing begins:

  • Structural supports go in place
  • Stud walls are erected to define new rooms
  • Openings are prepared for skylights or dormers

You’ll start to see your new attic take shape—walls, layout, light sources. It’s an exciting shift.

Day 6–7: First Fix Plumbing & Electrical

Depending on your design, our electricians and plumbers may begin:

  • Running wiring for sockets, lights, and internet
  • Prepping for any radiators, en-suites, or sink basins
  • Positioning outlets for future tech or work-from-home setups

We check everything twice—and consult you if any changes are needed on-site.

Bonus: Daily Communication & Clean Up

Every day during week one, you’ll receive:

  • A short morning brief on the day’s work
  • An afternoon wrap-up summary
  • Site cleaned and tidied before tools are downed

And if something comes up? You can call us directly. We believe in keeping things transparent, smooth, and friendly.

What You Won’t Have to Worry About

  • Dust Everywhere: We use industrial-grade dust extraction and sealed zones
  • Van Chaos: We manage our vehicles and parking
  • Endless Interruptions: Your life goes on—we adapt around you

How to Prepare Before the Crew Arrives

To make your first week even smoother:

  • Clear the attic access area
  • Remove valuables or fragile items nearby
  • Let neighbours know light noise is expected
  • Arrange alternate work-from-home zones if needed

We’re Building More Than a Room—We’re Building Trust

Your attic renovation isn’t just another job. It’s part of your home’s next chapter. That’s why we:

  • Stick to the plan, but stay flexible to your needs
  • Keep your home clean, safe, and respected
  • Focus on delivering real comfort—not just square footage
