See How One Family Got Their Attic Done in 6 Weeks

A Real Irish Renovation Story—from Dusty Space to Dream Room

It’s one thing to hear about attic renovations. It’s another thing entirely to see one unfold—from empty rafters to a fully furnished family space in just six weeks.

Meet the Murphy family from Naas. Like many Irish families, they were running out of room. With two kids heading into secondary school and a parent now working from home full-time, they knew something had to give.

“We looked at moving, but the cost and stress were overwhelming. That’s when we found TIAC.” – Deirdre Murphy

This is their story—and a look at what’s possible when a trusted team takes on your attic.

Week 1: Planning, Designs & Permissions

After booking their Free Estimate Visit, the Murphys received:

  • A home visit and attic assessment
  • 3D design concepts tailored to their needs
  • A transparent, fixed-price quote

They opted for a dual-purpose attic office and teenage retreat—with bespoke storage, natural light, and a fold-out bed for guests.

TIAC handled all paperwork, including:

  • Fire safety certification
  • Structural engineer assessments
  • Planning checks (none needed for their home type)

Time from quote to build: 2 weeks

Week 2: Structural Work & Insulation

Once on-site, the build team got to work:

  • Reinforced flooring and steel supports
  • Insulation upgrades (floor, wall, roof)
  • Dormer window frame installed for added space

TIAC’s clean-build process meant:

  • Minimal dust and disruption
  • Friendly, tidy crew
  • Daily updates for the Murphys

Week 3: Windows, Plumbing & Electrics

This week brought light—and serious progress.

Installations included:

  • Triple-glazed Velux windows
  • First-fix electrics and heating
  • Plumbing rough-in for the compact ensuite

“The light made the space feel twice the size. It stopped feeling like an attic and started feeling like a room.” – Brian Murphy

Week 4: Walls, Floors & Carpentry

With the structure in place, it was time to bring in comfort and style.

Work completed:

  • Stud walls and plastering
  • Attic flooring and skirting
  • Custom under-eaves storage units
  • Built-in wardrobe and fold-out desk

The Murphys chose warm oak floors, soft grey walls, and white wood trim.

Week 5: Ensuite Fit-Out & Feature Finishings

This phase included:

  • Compact shower and toilet installation
  • Chrome fixtures and subway tiles
  • Wall-mounted towel rail
  • Feature LED wall lighting

TIAC’s in-house carpenters built a floating shelf and headboard wall—tailored to the kids’ gaming and study setup.

Week 6: Final Touches & Walkthrough

Finishing touches:

  • Second-fix electrics and sockets
  • Final paint and sealants
  • Deep clean of the full space

TIAC’s team did a full walkthrough with the Murphys:

  • Checked fixtures, doors, and storage
  • Explained aftercare and ventilation tips
  • Delivered a completion certificate and warranty

From start to finish: 6 weeks, on the dot.

“TIAC made it all so easy. We didn’t have to chase anyone. The kids moved up the next weekend.” – Deirdre Murphy

Their New Attic: A Multi-Use Marvel

The Murphy attic now includes:

  • A bright home office (with door!)
  • Built-in desk and shelving
  • Fold-out sofa bed for guests
  • Ensuite bathroom
  • Two under-eaves wardrobe units

Room Type: Teen retreat + workspace + guest room = maximum flexibility
